The Untimely Death of Iggy Levine

from Box Elder by Larry Hirshberg

/

about

A guy nicks himself shaving, dies. Mostly true, except the guy didn't die.

lyrics

Did he get out of bed, distracted by what she said?
No, chances are it was the bank: his statement said his money stank.
At the sink, the water hot, he thought about what he was not.
And then that razor slipped, and he lost that chunk of lip.

The untimely death.
He saved his money, lost his blood.
He spent his heart like it was under arrest
A trickle killed him, not a flood.

“Big shaving accident,” was what he said and what he meant.
He scared us all on day one, when we saw his lip was undone.
On day two the blood still flowed, I think it was Modesto.
Though he was insured and he was rich, he wouldn’t pay to get it stitched.

The untimely death.
He saved his money, lost his blood.
He spent his love like it was under arrest
A trickle killed him, not a flood.
